March 9, 2026 - SMS Multi-Factor Authentication for E-Signing

Calculus now supports SMS-based Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) as an additional verification method when users e-sign their tax forms.

What This Means for Calculus Users:

When e-signing tax forms in Calculus, users must complete MFA verification. Users can now choose between:

  • Authenticator App (existing option): generates a 6-digit verification code
  • SMS Verification (new option): sends a 6-digit code to the user’s registered mobile phone number

This additional option provides users with a simpler and more flexible way to complete the MFA requirement for e-signing.

How to Add a Phone Number for SMS MFA:

Users can register their phone number through Sprintax Identity.

  1. Log in to Calculus.
  2. Click Account in the upper right corner of the screen.
  3. Select Sprintax Identity.
  1. On the Identity Server dashboard, select Security.
  1. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Add phone.
  1. Enter the phone number and review the conditions.
  1. Scroll to the end of the instructions and click Agree.
  1. Click Add to save the phone number.

Phone Number Verification

Once the phone number is added:

  • The system will send an SMS containing a 6-digit verification code.
  • The user must enter this code in the verification field to confirm their phone number.

After successful verification, the phone number will appear in the account and can be used for SMS MFA when e-signing tax forms.

Removing a Phone Number

Users can remove their phone number at any time:

  1. Navigate to the Security section in Sprintax Identity.
  2. Click the three dots beside the phone number.
  3. Select Delete.

Removing the number will stop the system from sending SMS verification codes to that device.
