March 5, 2026 - User Account Activation Update

A change has been introduced in how users activate their Calculus accounts if their original activation link has expired.

What has changed

The initial account activation link remains valid for 24 hours, as before. However, the process for activating an account after the link has expired has changed.

Previously, users could activate their account by selecting “Forgotten Password”. For security reasons, this option is no longer available for account activation.

New process for expired activation links

If a user’s activation link has expired, they must now request a new activation/reset link using the following steps:

  1. The user clicks the expired activation link in the original email sent by their institution.
  1. They will be redirected to a page informing them that the link has expired.
  2. The user should select “Request New Reset Link”.
  3. A new email will be sent to the user containing a fresh link.
  1. Using the new link, the user can proceed to set up their password and activate their account.

Additional notes

  • The newly issued link will allow the user to complete their account setup as normal.
  • This new link will be issued automatically without input from admins, meaning you will not need to manually resend the activation link.
  • The newly issued link, like the original, will stay active for 24-hours. If they again miss this window, the can follow this same process once more.
  • If the email does not appear immediately, users should wait a few minutes and check their Spam/Junk folder.

What this means for admins

Admins assisting users with account access should direct them to request a new reset link from the expired activation page, rather than advising them to use the Forgotten Password option.

If you have mentioned the Forgotten Password option for activating a user account in your activation email templates, this will need to be updated.
