Payments Entry Module (PEM)
The Calculus Payment Entry Module is an optional feature to enable or disable. Enabling this feature allows administrators to perform tax calculations on gross amounts/payments entered into the module.
It determines the taxable portion of a payment, the 1042-S tax due on the taxable amount, the applicable tax rate, and the net income based on the user's profile completion percentage in Calculus.
If you select to use PEM, you'll be asked for Previous Year's Balance, Frequency of 1042-S tax deposits and payments made so far for the tax year.
For more information, please see Payments Entry Module (PEM) Overview.
Vendors Module
Institutions have the option to enable the Vendors Module which will allows you to manage and interact with vendor and foreign entities profiles.
Important: If your Institution does not pay payments to foreign entities, you do not need to enable the module.
Tax Numbers
If your Institution gets involved in the SSN or ITIN process, you can use Calculus to generate the SS-5 and W7 forms for the relevant individuals applying for one.
Important: The forms are generated with personal information only. The individual must complete the process on the application outside of Calculus.
Other Settings
1. Select Yes or No: Does your Institution organize Exchange programs outside the US for foreign nationals? This is generally applicable to Institutions who organize exchange programs outside US for foreign nationals while they continue to receive payments.
2. State Withholding Forms can be enabled and generated per individual basis
Important: State forms are generated with personal information only. Calculus does not perform state tax determination.
Default Variables
Institutions can pre-answer questions that apply for all users by selecting the appropriate values. Users can change the first question's answer upon sign-in, but the answers to the second and third questions will be locked and cannot be edited by the users.
International Visa Statuses
Institutions can add visa types and a detailed description of each, for internal use for administrators using the software. The added visa types does not replace the existing ones in the system.
Info: These descriptions are not visible to foreign national users.
